My photography is an expression of my love for life and the natural world.
I grew up in rural Northern California. Nature was a part of daily life. As I got older I discovered the camera. I began to realize a passion for exploring the world through a camera lens. In college I studied anthropology and communication with a emphasis on digital photography and documentary film.
I’ve always dreamed of being an adventure photographer. Sometimes life has other plans though. My mother had been fighting a life long illness with Multiple Sclerosis. Her condition had worsened and while I was still in college she needed my help at home.
Helping with her illness also meant that I needed to make money to help out with the bills. So my part time job as a winery host slowly turned into a full time career after graduating in 2007. I worked my way up selling high end wine in the Napa Valley. But I kept up with my creative work.
Later, after my mother had passed away, and with success selling out most of my first exhibit, I decided to start a photography and digital design studio. In reality this meant odd jobs on the side of my full time wine career.
When I started my job at Bennett Lane Winery in Calistoga, I also had the opportunity to start producing exhibits and selling my work here. It was great working at Bennett Lane; I earned a name as a local artist and wine professional. I began to learn how to produce time-lapse videography in my free time. But I started to want more time for creative work. And with the state of the environment as it is, I began feeling a deep need to become more of an advocate.
I began planning to leave the wine business and pursue creative work full time. I purchased a Mercedes Sprinter camper van. The universe seemed to conspire with me. Just as I had started to shift my life into my "office on wheels" a wildfire destroyed my family home. I would not let life pull me down, it inspired me to push harder to pursue a career as a digital artist.
In 2016 I moved into my RV full time and am now traveling the country and pursuing my passion for fine art photography and now videography. I purchased a production quality drone for creating aerial shots and became a licensed commercial drone pilot.
Now I research things that I have an interest in, then take trips to produce a video blog episode about that topic—first episodes to be released sometime in Summer. My love of life and the natural world are what inspire me most. So I intend to explore natural places around the country under threat environmentally, and allow that to be an influence for what I do creatively.
So if I'm not exploring someplace new and making new friends you can fine me out in nature hiking, climbing, or doing astro photography late into the night. I spend a considerable amount of time keeping up with emails, and posting about my adventures on the road. As long as I have cell service I can do that, so thanks technology!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me! I love to talk story with people, so if you want to get to know me better feel free to reach out. I am on my computer a lot so I promise to get back quickly.
